This professional Italian violin full of modern elegance is a truly exceptional piece that was created by Italian luthier Claudio Gamberini of Pieve di Cento, probably during his period in Bologna around 1930. Its small and delicately carved scroll on a narrow peg box and its rather wide purfling along accentuated margins both represent Claudio Gamberini’s signature style; at the time this violin was made, he worked for the famous guitar virtuoso and instrument maker Luigi Mozzani and played a key part in his atelier. Claudio Gamberini chose top-quality maple for the ribs and the two-piece back, and the wood features fine narrow flames that are a true rarity; they are beautifully complemented by the refined moderately-grained spruce top with a reddish-brown varnish that gives it an antique charm. The professional violin’s Bolognese heritage is clearly evident in its full and well-executed table. This highly recommendable Italian violin has been preserved in excellent condition, with only a repair to the peg box that is completely insignificant, both from a musical and an aesthetic perspective. It has been thoroughly set up by the experts at our restoration atelier, and its attractive appearance is just as compelling as its excellent sound is bright, dominant and radiant.
