Fine French violin, Andre Coinus, Mirecourt 1927

This fine French violin by Andre Coinus was made in 1927 in Mirecourt, the violin is originally labeled and signed - it is a strong and expressive sounding instrument of unmistakably Mirecourt style. The influence of the regional tradition can be seen in the broad but elegant Mirecourt model, the well-proportioned scroll and in the fact that the elegantly cut sound holes are widely spaced, positioned close to the delicate, elegantly applied purfling. The flamed tone woods from the Vosges mountains of northern France are coated by a slightly patinated varnish of a beautiful and warm, luminous orange-brown against a lighter ground. The moderately-grained spruce used for the top creates interesting, individual accents in this Andre Coinus violin's attractive appearance.
