...This fine Italian violin was made in the circles of the famous workshop of Mario Gadda, and it reflects the utmost in the art of violin making, the kind that was practiced as part of the heritage of Mario‘s father Gaetano Gadda and his famous teacher Stefano Scarampella. A magnificent soloist instrument full of character and with a dominant and radiantly bright voice.
Stefano Scarampella’s influence played a major part in the creative work of Mario and Gaetano Gadda, and it would be no exaggeration to describe Gadda père and fils as the true artistic heirs of Scarampella – after all, Gaetano was Scarampella’s only student and the closest colleague of this extremely interesting, innovative and unconventional master of contemporary Italian violin making. Paying homage to their great role model is typical of the Gadda family tradition, and indeed it is Scarampella’s name on the label dated 1906, yet this violin represents a remarkable position in the Gadda oeuvre with its exceptionally lovely sound and distinguished aesthetic. The certificate of authenticity from Carlson & Neumann in Cremona, one of the most renowned experts in Italian violin making, is reserved about making a definitive statement as to who exactly crafted it, and it is highly probable that this master instrument was created jointly by Gaetano Gadda and his son Mario. Its high quality is immediately apparent in the beautiful flames of the two-piece maple back and the charming irregularities in the grain of the spruce top; in traditionally Italian fashion, these idiosyncrasies were joyfully accentuated to highlight the unique aesthetic that is further emphasized by the thick coat of luminous dark orange oil varnish. The subtle crackling complements the character of this top-tier instrument for demanding soloists, and our clients can also take advantage of the trade-in guarantee. Now ready to play after having been carefully set up by the experts in our workshop, this violin is in outstanding musical condition and can open up all of the facets of voluminous voice, a sound which creates the ideal conditions for interpreting great violin literature thanks to its bright radiance and its self-assured dominance.
