An antique French violin with excellent tonal qualities. The violin is a Mirecourt piece of work from around 1900 that was made for the shop of Leon Bernardel. The violin is double labelled "copie de Antonius Stradivarius" (copy of Antonius Stradivarius) and a second "choisi par Leon Bernardel" (selected by Leon Bernardel). The beautiful woods are well selected, the relatively high archings well considered. The varnish is of a shiny and intense sunny orange brown color over a yellow ground. The violin is despite a minor saddle repair under 1cm length undamaged and perfectly preserved. Bridge, soundpost and strings are new. The extraordinary beautiful character sound is warm, matured, noble and perfectly balanced.
