François Caussin, magnificent French violin, Neufchateau approx. 1860

François Caussin (1794 - 1866) crafted this magnificent master violin around 1860 from the finest woods. It is a splendid copy of Jean Baptiste Vuillaume, a remarkable master violin catching the eye, with a striking outline, distinctive fluting and an eye-catching antiqued varnish, all marked by the style of the most prominent figures in French violin making that was prevalent in the mid 19th century. Its superior character distinguishes this François Caussin master violin from many of its contemporaries which hail from his successful workshop. The musical appreciation this outstanding soloist instrument has received can be seen by some traces of intensive use, especially on the back, which is crafted of wonderfully even maple. This fine violin by François Caussin was meticulously worked over by our luthier and is offered well restored with a sound post patch at approximately half price. The aesthetic of this great violin is as fascinating and enigmatic as its sound, powerful, rich in volume, mature and radiant, suitable for professional soloist play.
