Historic violin from the most mature phase of Emile Laurent's work, in pristine condition, with a soloistic sound.
Emile Laurent II (1875–1941) was the son and student of the award-winning Emile Laurent (père), who, as a long-time collaborator of Joseph Hel and with his own work, represents an important line of Mirecourt violin-making tradition in the early 20th century. The fine violin offered here, from the most mature period of his Paris workshop, presents the son as a master in his own right, whose instruments meet the highest aesthetic and musical standards.
Made in the second year after his move to Paris, this Emile Laurent violin reflects the prominent stages of his training and career, which took him from his father's studio to Paul Blanchard, Caressa & Français, Lyon & Healy in Chicago and finally to his first own workshop in Bordeaux. The violin offered here, with its handwritten, dated and signed label, is in as-new condition and even has Laurent's original stamped bridge. Thanks to its excellent condition, the dark red varnish on a golden yellow background has retained all of its captivating luminosity; fine details such as the delicately blackened edges of the scroll and the rare beauty of the flaming of the two-piece maple back are shown to their full attractiveness. The violin is a consummately successful interpretation of the French Stradivari, not least thanks to its large, voluminous sound, whose radiance and mature character qualify it for professional use and solo performance.
