Etienne Perrin: Antique French violin with a professional sound

The French violin maker Etienne Perrin is an excellent master whose work represents the virtues of the early 19th-century Mirecourt school of violin making. Despite the high quality of his instruments, little is known about him and his family, which produced several interesting violin makers – which is why their story is primarily recorded in historical violins such as the one offered here.

  • Perfectly preserved antique string instrument from the early 19th century
  • Etienne Perrin stamp
  • Certificate from J. J. Rampal
  • Powerful, large and radiant, mature sound, rich in tone colors
  • First-class masterpiece made from high-quality, beautiful tonewoods
  • A historic varnish full of character

The craftsmanship that is evident in every detail of this Etienne Perrin violin is the work of a highly skilled master who was probably in his forties at the time of its creation. The one-piece top made of rare, beautiful, wide- to medium-grained spruce is an unconventional and sophisticated demonstration of his art, which is also articulated in the one-piece back made of mildly flamed maple. The violin's antique character is characterized by the wide, drawn-out corners, the extremely finely worked edge inlay and a dark orange-brown varnish that has developed a noble patina. This violin, which bears Etienne Perrin's brand stamp on the inside, has been checked and set up in our violin-making workshop and is in excellent condition. Its mature and radiant sound, with its richness of tone colors and powerful volume, meets the highest demands of professional musicians.
