This old violin from tMagdeburg was built by Max Renz in 1946 after the classical model of Joseph Guarnerius del Gesù. The instrument features a broad model with flat archings and presents a finely inlaid purfling and characteristical ff-holes that were cut after the famous Italian pattern as evidence of premium craftsmanship. Max Renz chose quality tonewoods for this piece, regular grained spruce for the top and mildly flamed maple for the two-piece back. The luminous red-brown varnish was tastefully designed and bears some expressive traces of use as they are common for an old instrument of such age, and they indicate that its former owners obviously loved to play this violin. It is preserved in undamaged, excellent condition and was worked over thoroughly in our atelier, so it is offered ready to express the typical sound of the Guarneri model, a strong and bright voice, that features good resonance and clarity especially in the lower ranges.
