This powerful and richly ornamented premium violin is a particularly beautiful instrument that hails from the legendary Hopf ateliers in the Saxonian town of Klingenthal. It was made around 1800 as a perfect expression of the inimitable Hopf style which was established by the pater familias of the violin making family, Caspar Hopf (~1650-1711). The distinctive “angular” shape and the thin coat of transparent golden-brown varnish which has developed a thick patina are the most conspicuous characteristics of an authentic old Hopf violin. The wide shape of the pegbox is set off by an exceptional scroll, while the flamed, one-piece maple back is decorated with intricate inlays underneath the classic “HOPF” brand mark. The sound of this historic personality of an instrument has the specific character of an old, mature violin and shares the top quality that Hopf violins are known for: clear, colourful and mature. A violin so remarkable it does not need any further recommendation - with a secure repair to the original neck ready to play after a complete restoration by our luthier.
