A modern Hungarian violin made by master maker István Balázs. The instrument was made in 1984 in Budapest, it bears the original handwritten and dated label. The top is made of medium grained spruce, the back which is highly arched in the middle, made of mildly flamed maple. The characteristic scroll is very aesthetically worked out. The violin is excellent, undamaged and crackfree condition. Even though the instrument is a fine quality masterpiece, the fingerboard is made of blackened white wood which had obviously had to be used as a replacement for the rarely avaiable tropic ebony wood in the Eastern European countries at the time. The strong open sound combined bright clear sweetness with strong clear mellowness in the lower ranges.
