Dating back to 1950 / 1960 this German violin has a sound which is bright and outstandingly well-balanced; it can be recommended wholeheartedly for advanced performance due to its voice, which is as clear as it is warm and large. Its musical properties and the independently designed model which indisputably indicates it was based on German tradition both stir up interest in learning more about its maker, whose name remains unknown. There are some details which imply that the maker's craftsmanship has its roots in Saxonian style, and his experienced and meticulous work is apparent in the shaping of the flat table, the one-piece back and the expertly accentuated margins. The richly applied coat of oil varnish has developed slight crackling and gives this rather young instrument a charming historic air. At our atelier for restoration, we carefully set up this violin and made it ready to play, and we warmly recommend it to sophisticated musicians who want an instrument with an unmistakable character.
