Italian violin, Officina Claudio Monteverde, Cremona 1923

Italian violin from Cremona with q strong, bright, somewhat sweet sound; the violin was made in the 1920's in the "Officina Claudio Monteverde" led by Aristide Cavalli, violin maker of Cremona. It was likely made by Romedio Muncher who worked in the Officina during these times. The violin bears the original label used by the "Officina Claudio Monteverde", signed in ink. This elegant Italian violin has a low table, and its outstanding quality is clearly evident in the way the purfling was executed with elegance as well as in the delicate purfling and soundholes. The mild flames of the maple on the two-piece back and the top-quality spruce of the top are well-chosen tone woods coated with a thick layer of a dark orange oil varnish. We received it with some minor traces of use which imply that there were experienced musicians amongst its previous owners. This would be no surprise in light of this Italian violin's bright, expressive sound which gives demanding soloists a broad palette of multi-facetted interpretations.
