Johann Gottlob Ficker, historic master violin dated approximately 1800

One of the best Saxonian luthiers of his day, Johann Gottlob Ficker I created this historic Markneukirchen master violin around 1800. It is both a musical rarity and the perfect choice for professional musicians and soloists. Its maker hailed from Markneukirchen, and even during his lifetime he was seen as an outstanding artisan; Johann Gittlob Fickers reputation extended far past the Vogtland region, and his work could easily hold its own against Italian string instruments of the late 18th century. This antique Markneukirchen violin pays tribute to the classic model crafted by Jakob Stainer and bears Johann Gottlob Ficker’s faksimile label inside of the body. A copy of an old certificate by Dykes& Sons is included. The selection of such outstanding tone woods demonstrates the high standards Johann Gottlob Ficker had achieved at the zenith of his career, approximately 1800. The quality of the medium-grained spruce of the violin top and the deep flames of the maple used for the two-piece back is evident at first glance, and they are enhanced by a luminous coat of bright yellow and highly transparent varnish. The self-confident carving in the upright scroll, delicate margins and magnificently crafted purfling are Johann Gottlob Ficker’s exemplary illustrations of these violin-making disciplines. With some restoration the violin is in good condition, given its advanced age and its long musical history, which can be seen in its interesting traces of use. Now that it has been meticulously set up by the luthiers at our workshop, we warmly recommend this exceptional Saxonian instrument because of its warm, large, resonant sound, compelling in its brilliance and volume.
