Swiss master violin by the awarded Zurich violin maker Carl Mächler that features a warm, rich, sweet sound

Carl Mächler (* 1902) was an internationally recognized, influential Swiss violin maker who enjoyed the highest reputation with his replicas of historical masters, his restorations and as an expert. The violin offered here represents his work in the tenth year of his Zurich atelier and impresses with its characterful style and substantial, powerful sound.

Born in Mannheim, Carl Mächler was at this time looking back on a highly productive period of apprenticeship and travel, which had taken him from the Mittenwald violin making school to some of the most important workshops in the German-speaking world. After working for Georg Winterling in Hamburg and Krailing in Munich and many other exponents of fine violin making, he had become an employee of Jakob Emil Züst, who promoted many young violin makers and had a style-defining influence on Swiss violin making in the 20th century. Winning 1st prize for a Guadagnini copy at the Cremona International Violin making Exhibition in 1949 was to document Carl Mächler's artistic standing. Self-confident, sovereign craftsmanship determines - in accordance with this career - the violin offered here, whose individual patron, the deeply engraved scroll and the noble, orange-brown varnish show the class of this instrument at first sight. Mächler's original label inside the body proves the provenance of this perfectly preserved top violin, which we offer immediately ready to play after a thorough inspection in our workshop. Its mature, sweet sound has great power, depth and substance.
