This attractive Southern German lion head violin was made around the mid-19th century, and it ranks among the especially tasteful examples of such handcarved instruments. The beautifully executed carving of the lion's head is full of character and highlights the instrument's quality craftsmanship. Meticulous purfling graces the gentle curves of the accentuated edges. The original dark varnish of the moderately high-arched master violin is only partially preserved and was touched up on some spots. This interesting lion head violin is in very good condition and the body has just a very small repair at the left sound hole which is both musically and aesthetically insignificant. A great deal of care was invested in this good lion head violin at our workshop, and it has now been set up and is offered, as all Corilon instruments, ready to play and to express its fine sound every time you play. Its voice is clear and rich in overtones.
