This well crafted Mittenwald violin patterned after Guarneri was made in 1962 in the workshop of Mittenwald luthier Leo Aschauer: it is an exquisite instrument with the finest aesthetic and acoustic properties. Its maker accurately captured the defining characteristics of the Guarneri model, especially the narrow contours and the typical high sound holes, which in this case – unlike many historic Guarneri violins – were very cleanly carved. The good quality is also evident in the harmonious large scroll, the perfectly executed purfling and the rich, luminous orange-brown varnish over a golden-yellow background. This powerful Leo Aschauer Mittenwald violin is in perfect condition with a well-made repair to the button, but no cracks, and it has been carefully set up in our specialist atelier. It has a compelling voice that is powerful, dark, clear and precise: its volume is solid and its character unmistakable.
