A modern Mittenwald violin from the workshop of the contemporary violin maker Leo Aschauer. The instrument was made in the Bavarian violin making town of Mittenwald in 1951. The top is made of medium grained spruce, the two piece back of mildly flamed maple. The beautiful scroll is made in the Mittenwald tradition. The varnish is an oil varnish of a warm red-brown color over a yellow ground. The varnish is craquelled at some places. The violin is despite a minor repair at the left outer f-wing undamaged and crackfree. The warm sound is dark and mellow, with excellent volume and strength. Special recommendation.
