Modern Italian violin by Imerio Filippi - Cremona 1969
Imerio Filippi is an interesting violin maker of the modern Cremonese tradition that unfolded in the second half of the 20th century during the revival of the Cremona violin making school. With the full-blooded Italian violin offered here, a work from 1969 with his handwritten and dated original label, Filippi gives an aesthetically and tonally perfect example of his art. From an obviously well-stocked store of first-class tonewoods, he has chosen fine to medium grained spruce for the top and maple of extremely fine flaming for the two-piece back, the ribs and the scroll, and has worked them with a sure feeling for the vibrational properties of the material. The fine purfling and the light golden-brown oil varnish, playing with subtle orange tones, are masterful testimonies to mature craftsmanship. Delicate craquelle rounds out the attractive appearance of this Imerio Filippi violin with an individual touch that includes some traces of previous owners who have recognizably played this exquisite sounding instrument a great deal during the half century of its existence. Matured into a musical personality that appeals to discerning musicians with a sense for the special character of Italian stringed instruments, the violin is in excellent condition; gone through and prepared ready to play by the specialists of our luthier's workshop, it invites you to explore its radiant sound, rich in overtones and of melting clarity.
