Rare Mittenwald violin, approx. 1750, probably Johann Ulrich Fichtl

With its delicate, flute-like and silvery sound and craftsmanship of outstanding quality, this highly arched violin is a true masterpiece which was built in Mittenwald, around 1750. The delicate sound holes and the petite, slim model lend this instrument its elegant style. The intricate purfling close to the edges accentuates the aged spruce of the top and the very mild flames of the sycamore maple of the two-piece back. Well-selected tone woods of high tonal quality are coated by a honeybrown-coloured varnish. The interesting scroll is full of character - the confident work of an experienced hand that crafted the peg box with the greatest care. A fine table soundpost crack, some old repairs to the ribs and minor cracking have been restored by the specialists in our atelier and carefully set up. This 18th century Johann Ulrich Fichtl violin is full of character and now offered ready to play, at a competetive price, and its aged, flute-like and silvery voice full of overtones is compelling in its resonance and brilliance.
