In March 1912, this delicate violin was crafted in the London workshop of James Steele, who named his attractive and distinctive model “Quartus.” Deep-red oil varnish coats exceptionally lovely tone woods; the luthier's rich artisanal experience and refined sense of taste are both evident in the wood he chose. The slightly hazy and asymmetrical flaming of the maple back shape the instrument's character, complemented by the self-assuredly large and eye-catching scroll. The provenance of this undamaged violin in perfect condition is confirmed by the dated original label on the inside of the body. After having been carefully set up by the specialists in our atelier, the violin is now ready to play. We recommend it because of its outstanding, very mature and soloistic sound, fluid and precise with a dark note — full of resonance and with excellent volume.
