Violin maker Eugène Nicolas Sartory
Eugène Nicolas Sartory (1871–1946) is considered to be the modern classic of French bow making, and his oeuvre still holds the same high regard and radiance amongst top musicians thanks in no small part to the consistently rigorous quality of his work, which ranked amongst the greatest achievements in the history of his guild. His perfectly crafted and meticulously balanced bows represent a highly individual model influenced by Charles Peccatte and Joseph Alfred Lamy père. Beyond that, Sartory had a lasting effect because of the inspiration he gave to the excellent masters at his workshop, which included internationally esteemed masters such as Louis Morizot and Hermann Prell.
