This good German master violin bow was crafted around 1960 in the atelier of Rudolf Dotschkail (1923-1996) and features the original stamp R. DOTSCHKAIL*** over the frog. Dotschkail came from the Egerland region of the Czech republic, learned his trade at the academy in Graslitz and ranks amongst the Bohemian violin and bow makers who were driven into exile. In 1951 he opened his workshop in Eltersdorf near Erlangen. This violin bow is made of valuable dark brown pernambuco. Its round, thick stick is surprisingly light in the hand and has a characteristically shaped and delicately carved head. The bow measures 74.2 cm and 61.8 g in weight with a balance point in the lower third, towards the genuine silver fittings of the ebony frog with its Parisian eye. An excellently balanced piece, it has outstanding playing qualities and creates a dark, full, large sound.
