This beautiful contemporary baroque violin has a sound of medium strength, “quiet but with a sweet sharpness,” as Nikolaus Harnoncourt calls the sound of a baroque violin. It was made in the English tradition and based on an Amati model. English luthier J. P. Giddings built this baroque violin in High Easter, Essex, in 2000. Fine-grained spruce was selected for the top and deeply flamed maple for the two-piece back and ribs; the tonewoods are of superb quality. The fingerboard and tailpiece are veneered and handmade. The baroque violin features typical stylistic elements of the English school like the prominent scroll and the neat cornerwork. This baroque violin has gut strings and a baroque bridge, making it ideal for playing early music. The baroque violin's sound is precise and well-balanced.
