This beautiful German violin was made approx. 1900 in an unknown workshop of the Bohemian-Saxonian region, near the well-known place of violin-making Markneukirchen. It bears a Karl Niedt Würzburg label. The instrument was built after a Italian pattern, its medium arching is very well-crafted, and the choice of medium grained spruce for the top and attractive maple for the one piece back demonstrate the skills of a talented craftsman. The fine purfling is especially beautiful; the warm ogolen-brown color of the varnish over a golden-yellow ground with some antiqueings determines the antique appearance of the instrument. This violin is perfectly preserved and was carefully worked over by our luthier; in immediate playing condition it unfolds its convincing bright and clear sound that is full of character, precise, resonant, and warm.
